Who are we?

Meet some of the members of the Greater Carpenters Neighbourhood Forum

Greater Carpenters Neighbourhood Forum is a group of local residents and stakeholders who want more control over the development that takes place in our area. That includes the types of green, play and work spaces, homes, community facilities and transport links.

The Forum has over a hundred members including local residents, people who work in the area and local elected members. Around a quarter of the membership regularly attends GCNF monthly meetings.

The Forum was designated by the London Legacy Development Corporation in July 2015.

The Forum is writing a Neighbourhood Plan. The Forum’s aims are that this will eventually become part of the London Legacy Development Corporations planning policy, which developers will have to conform to.

We have had too many years of top-down plans being foisted on us by Newham Council. I hope that our Neighbourhood Forum will help to put our community a bit more in the driving seat and that through developing a Neighbourhood Plan we will be in a better position to determine what we want for our future. The more that people are involved from the start, the stronger the Plan will be.

I support the Forum because I love the estate. In the midst of so much that is new, Carpenters represents an important link with our heritage. Carpenters is a community, a place where people support their neighbours, a place to put down roots, a place to call home. These places are rare and precious in post-Olympic Newham, and we have much to offer our surrounding community. Please join the Forum, and help to build community.

I want to see the vision that we set out in the Carpenters Community Plan developed further; to make sure that the views of those who live around the Carpenters Estate are included. The Greater Carpenters Forum is the first step to achieving that, to strengthening our community and to ensuring that we gain the benefits that the Olympic Legacy was supposed to bring.

I have lived in the Greater Carpenters district since just after the 2012 Olympic Games. I’m an active volunteer in the area – as an Olympic Park Champion, working with Groundwork and an Orchard Leader -planting trees in the Olympic Park. I strongly support the development of a Neighbourhood Forum and Plan and have been helping to get the Forum’s website up and running.

I am not a member of the forum and what to be. How can I join?

If you working, living or have a connection to the Carpenter’s you can join using our online registration form.
